- The preparation is a vitamin B12 preparation. Cyanocobalamin belongs to the group of substances collectively referred to as "vitamin B12".
- Indications:
- Vitamin B12 deficiency that cannot be corrected through diet.
- Vitamin B12 deficiency can manifest in the following clinical pictures:
- Hyperchromic macrocytic megaloblastic anemia (pernicious anemia, Biermer's anemia, Addison's anemia; these are maturation disorders of red blood cells)
- Funicular spinal disease [spinal cord damage]
- A laboratory-confirmed vitamin B12 deficiency can occur in cases of:
- Years of malnutrition and malnourishment (e.g., due to a strictly vegetarian diet).
- Malabsorption (insufficient absorption of vitamin B12 in the intestine) due to:
- insufficient production of intrinsic factor (a protein formed in the gastric mucosa that is required for the absorption of vitamin B12),
- diseases in the terminal ileum (part of the small intestine), e.g., sprue,
- fish tapeworm infestation, or
- blind loop syndrome (change in the intestinal tract after stomach surgery).
- Congenital vitamin B12 transport disorders.
- Always use this medicine exactly as instructed. Please check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
- The recommended dose is:
- At the beginning of treatment, 1 ml (1 ampoule) is administered once or twice a week during the first two weeks after diagnosis, corresponding to 1000 - 2000 µg of cyanocobalamin per week.
- In the case of proven vitamin B12 absorption disorders in the intestine, 100 µg of cyanocobalamin is subsequently administered once a month.
- Duration of use:
- The medicine is intended for long-term use.
- Please consult your doctor about this.
- If you have used a larger amount:
- No cases of poisoning or overdose symptoms are known.
- If you have forgotten to use it:
- Do not use a double dose if you have forgotten the previous application.
- If you stop the application:
- If you interrupt treatment, you jeopardize the success of the treatment! If you experience unpleasant side effects, please speak to your doctor about further treatment.
- The medicine is usually administered intramuscularly (injected into a muscle). However, it can also be given slowly intravenously or subcutaneously (injected into a vein or under the skin).
- Like all medicines, this preparation can have side effects, although not everybody gets them.
- Possible side effects:
- Very rare (less than 1 in 10,000 treated):
- Skin manifestations (acne as well as eczematous and urticarial drug reactions) and hypersensitivity phenomena (anaphylactic or anaphylactoid reactions)
- Very rare (less than 1 in 10,000 treated):
- If you notice any side effects, talk to your doctor, pharmacist, or medical professional. This also applies to side effects not listed here.
- The medicine must not be used:
- if you are hypersensitive (allergic) to cyanocobalamin or any of the other ingredients of the preparation.
- Use with other medicines:
- Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking/using, have recently taken/used, or intend to take/use any other medicines.
- No interactions are known to date.
- Due to the instability of vitamin B12, mixing with other medicinal substances can lead to a loss of the vitamin's effectiveness.
- If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or if you suspect you are pregnant or intend to become pregnant, ask your doctor for advice before using this medicine.

The recommended daily vitamin B12 intake during pregnancy and breastfeeding is 4 µg. According to experience to date, higher amounts used have no adverse effects on the unborn child. Vitamin B12 passes into breast milk.
